The Artist’s Way with Judith Balian

This fall, Judith Balian celebrates her fifth year of offering expressive arts classes based on Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way. The nine-week class helps people overcome blocks, transform their inner critics, and move forward with their creative projects and dreams.

Balian provides a safe space where participants can explore themselves and discover their own natural creativity. The classes include the traditional Artist’s Way check-in and sharing followed by activities such as image making, sculpting, writing, movement, visualization and role play. With a master’s degree in psychology and a certificate in expressive arts, Balian explains that it’s the processes, not the final product, that help people get in touch with their creativity. “You don’t need artistic ability or special talent, just an open mind,” she explains. “The expressive arts spark imagination, foster self-knowledge, and provide inspiration.”

Balian also offers a class she calls “Beyond the Artist’s Way” for people who have previously taken an Artist’s Way class and a support group called Tea & Accountability to help people stay on track with their projects and goals.
