Results from a recent study show that the economic impact Bastyr University in Washington State has on the Seattle-area community of Kenmore exceeded $136 million in 2010. This is good news for the San Diego economy, as Bastyr is slated to open an additional campus for natural health students in San Diego in fall 2012.

The University Economic Impact Study conducted by Hebert Research of Bellevue, Washington, and presented to Kenmore City Council members in October, found that Bastyr University infused dollars into the local economy in numerous ways. These include the economic activities associated with the University’s operations and investment projects, as well as its teaching clinic, plus spending by local alumni and students who would not live in the area otherwise.

“As the University fulfills its mission in educating future leaders in the natural health arts and sciences, it also serves as a significant engine for our Kenmore community, King County and Washington State,” says Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, Ph.D. “We are proud that Bastyr University, from its inception over 30 years ago as a fledgling professional school with about 30 students, has experienced the type of growth reported in this study.”

Located north of Seattle, Bastyr University is an accredited institution, internationally recognized as a pioneer in natural medicine. It is the largest university teaching natural health arts and sciences in the United States. Bastyr’s multidisciplinary curriculum combines leading-edge research with clinical training to educate future leaders in fields such as naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, Oriental medicine and whole food nutrition.
