Solana Beach City Council Opposes Surcharge
The Solana Beach City Council unanimously agreed to oppose the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) proposed surcharge on solar and renewable users at its meeting on November 9. The council agreed to draft a resolution opposing the plan and send letters to that effect to the California Public Utilities Commission, Governor Jerry Brown and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).
“We consider the City of Solana Beach’s position a great victory for solar and renewable energy users in Solana Beach, throughout San Diego and ultimately in all of California,” explained Lane Sharman, managing director of the new non-profit organization, Save Our Sol. “It’s outrageous that SDG&E is trying to surcharge people who are generating their own clean energy.”
Formed by Solana Beach residents to raise awareness of SDG&E’s surcharge plans, Save our Sol maintains that the proposed surcharge is already having a chilling effect on one of California’s employment bright spots—solar energy.
