March is Women’s History Month and it’s an amazing time to stop and reflect on the trailblazers and glass ceiling-shatterers that came before us and the progress each of us as individuals have made in our respective careers, industries and lives.

This year, The Business Women’s Mega Mixer, being held March 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Bahia Resort in Mission Bay, celebrates and recognizes “One Woman” honoring the many hats every woman wears, every day.

Started nine years ago by two trailblazing local business

women, the event originally began as an idea to bring two women’s organizations together for a mixer. And then the pair thought, “why not invite 20 groups?” That’s when it went MEGA. The event brought together more than 20 women’s organizations, numerous women-owned and/or female-focused businesses as exhibitors, and over 100 local business women for an evening of mixing, mingling, celebrating and giving back.

“Every year since, the event has grown. This year, we’re back at the Bahia Resort,” shares event producer, Shonna Jordan.  “With amazing views of the bay, it’s quite a view from the fifth-floor ballroom.”

The event features the “Mega Models” who will represent the multiple facets of being a woman such as chauffeur, chef, business executive and even magician. Donned in attire apropos to each “hat” and armed with fun facts, statistics and trivia, the Mega Models will engage with event attendees after doing a fashion show on stage.

“As in years past, there will be over 20 women’s organizations, but now there are nearly 70 exhibitors and vendors and over 300 participants coming together to celebrate Women’s History Month,” says Jordan.  “The energy is incredible; the laughter and joy are palpable. You can literally see connections being made everywhere. It’s amazing.”

Though having had been a part of the event since its inception in 2010, 2018 will mark the fourth year that Jordan has carried the torch lit by those two forward-thinking women nine years ago. “It’s quite an honor,” she says, “I am humbled by the opportunity and excited at what each year will bring.”

“When women come together to celebrate, great things happen,” affirms Jordan. “When women support one other, history is made.”
