The Spreckels Organ Society will present the 2011 Summer International Organ Festival on Monday evenings through August 29, in Balboa Park. Refreshment and gift sales start at 5:30 p.m. and performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
The free festival features celebrated organists from around the world, playing the largest outdoor pipe organ in America. Proceeds from the sale of light snacks, beverages and unique gifts on the pavilion grounds benefit the Spreckels Organ Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping preserve, program and promote the Spreckels Organ as a world treasure for all people.
July’s performances include Walter Strony presenting An Independence Day Celebration on July 4; Scott Dettra, organist of the Washington National Cathedral, in Washington, D.C., on July 11; Sal Soria, organist of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, in Los Angeles, on July 18; and Austrian concert organist Helmuth Luksch, on July 25.
