Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon 2011

Jul 29, 2011 09:07AM

The Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) will sponsor the sixth annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, September 11, at the dog beach in Del Mar. Featuring surfing dogs, a dog bikini contest, humans surfing in costume, celebrity judges from the surfing industry and more than 40 vendors, the event offers people and their pets an opportunity to exercise, bond and have fun.

Funds raised will support HWAC programs, including the center’s adoption initiative that finds homes for more than 3,000 animals annually, 80 percent of which are rescued from overcrowded shelters and animal control facilities, where they might otherwise be euthanized. HWAC also reaches 10,000 animals and 50,000 children and adults each year through their Humane Education programs, the AniMobile traveling classroom, visits to Title I schools throughout San Diego County, Pet Encounter Therapy, therapeutic riding programs, Animeals and more.

Location: Hwy. 101, near Via de la Valle intersection, Del Mar 92014. For more information or to sign up for surf clinics, visit SurfDog.Kintera.org. To learn more about HWAC, visit AnimalCenter.org.
