Next Generation Air: Leading the Way in Home Energy Solutions

From the time he was old enough to tag along to jobsites with his dad, Ryan Mathern, the owner of Next Generation Air, has been interested in heating and air conditioning. By listening to stories about his grandfather, who started the company that initially specialized only in plumbing and heating, Mathern absorbed his family’s business philosophy, which was founded on doing things right the first time.
Mathern worked in the business during high school, but when he wanted to join full-time, his father preferred that he work first for someone else. “After leaving the United States Marine Corps, I initially went to work in a local sheet metal shop, then did service and warranty work for Carrier Corporation, a world leader in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems,” Mathern recalls. “Finally, I rounded out my business experience by helping a friend start his own business.” His six years of acquiring expertise proved very useful when he assumed leadership of Next Generation Air in 2007.
“My earliest efforts were focused on revamping the company’s installation department to bring it up to industry standards; designing a recycling program, which allows us to recycle 90 percent of the trash from new installations; and finding green products that could be used to further reduce the impact on landfills and our eco-system,” says Mathern. “As much as possible, we avoid throwing anything in the dumpster.”
When asked to cite the quality that makes Next Generation Air unique, Mathern replies with a smile: “We do our energy audits and load calculations 100 percent right every time, which is why we can guarantee our work and our customers can enjoy the full life of their equipment, better performance and no mold issues. If we don’t do it ‘100 Percent Right Every Time,’ like our motto says, we abide by our guarantee to refund our customer’s money,” he advises. “We also abide by building codes, which require permits for every job. For the customer, this means a problem-free inspection.”
