Linda Sechrist and Tris Conley. Sanoviv Medical Institute, Playas de Rosarito, Mexico.
This month’s letter is written by one of our editors, Linda Sechrist, who recently visited San Diego.
The daily rhythm of interviewing and writing as well as the fast pace of magazine production schedules tends to blur my memory of anything that occurred more than a week ago. This is why I am particularly appreciating reviewing and labeling all the amazing photos that I took while I was enjoying Elaine’s hospitality and the wondrous natural beauty of northern Mexico and San Diego county’s coastal towns—Encinitas, Carlsbad and Cardiff by the Sea. Some of my photos, such as the view from my hotel room in Mission Bay and the view from my room at Sanoviv Medical Institute in Rosarita, are so stunning that they look more like postcards that have been photo-shopped.
As I looked at the photos I got to relive some exceptional experiences such as the visit to Two Bunch Palms resort in Desert Springs, where I got to experience a Watsu treatment and interview 5 Watsu therapists who came to the resort for training in healing water dance. For anyone who has never had the experience of a relaxing soak in the hot mineral springs or been on the receiving end of a Watsu treatment, reach for the phone now and make a reservation for a guaranteed out-of-this-world experience.
If a trip to Desert Springs is out of the question, the next best thing is a visit to Envision Personalized Health in San Diego. I personally recommend indulging in two Ayurvedic treatments—Abhyanga, a whole body treatment with organic sesame oil and Shirodhara, warm herb infused oil that flows across the forehead.
Taking in the natural beauty of California can be as uplifting and relaxing as a visit to a spa. This is why I found the drive to Julian—along with the gourmet “farm to table dining” at Jeremy’s On the Hill—especially delightful.
When I wasn’t appreciating beauty, I was enjoying a tour of places that were on my Bucket List. After interviewing staff at Bastyr University, Sanoviv Medical Institute, and the ChopraCenter, for articles that I have written during my 9 years with Natural Awakenings, I finally got to experience these icons of the healthy lifestyle industry.
Generally, I interview people by phone, which is why it felt good to look real human beings in the eyes and compliment them for their contributions to natural health and healing. I was particularly grateful to spend two nights at Sanoviv and interview their expert staff of 9 physicians, a doctor of dental surgery, and a nutritionist. I appreciate this remarkable medical facility, with cutting-edge European medical technologies, because there, beauty is considered an essential part of healing. After all the jaw-dropping California beauty that my soul imprinted, I couldn’t agree more.
Although my previous visit was in 2010, I’m sure it won’t be that long until I’ll hear San Diego calling again.
