Monthly Networking Meeting Focuses on Self-Defense for Women
May 23, 2019 03:31PM
Debbie Love, founder of Heads Up! Self-Defense in Solana Beach, will be speaking on the topic of women’s safety at the Rancho Santa Fe Business and Professional Women’s Association luncheon being held June 27 at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, near Rancho Santa Fe.
During her talk, Love, who has made it her life’s mission to equip as many women as possible with the skills required to protect themselves against assault and rape, will offer tips and advice on a wide variety of safety issues that women face daily. “Because of the time of year with so many recent graduates, I’ll also be addressing sexual assault on young women, particularly those heading to college campuses. Many of these women will be away from home for the first time and have no idea how to manage their newfound freedom or the pitfalls that can lead to sexual assault and rape,” she explains.
According to Love, self-defense is more than just learning techniques. “It begins with being aware of your surroundings and knowing what to watch for. The need to protect yourself physically should be your last line of defense. Many victims of rape and sexual assault have one thing in common—they never thought it would happen to them and took no precautions or gave any thought to protecting themselves.”
