Nichola Karma, artist and registered nurse residing in the Santa Cruz mountains, began her peace project organically five years ago when one of her patients asked for a butterfly for his birthday.

      Since then, she has handmade hundreds of butterflies for healers, yogis, shamans, doctors, nurses, reverends and people all around the world including the hugging saint Amma, Ram Dass, Deva Premal, Miten, Adyashanti and Paramahamsa Nithyananda. On the backs of each butterfly Karma writes, “May peace be with you always and forever with infinite love and gratitude. I wish you eternal bliss.”

         According to Karma, one of her spiritual mentors had worked alongside Mother Theresa for 10 years. “She taught me her life’s work and asked me to eventually teach lessons on love and compassion. I believe these handmade butterflies are the chosen instrument to teach those lessons as the butterfly is a perfect symbol illustrating what we are going through as a collective in our evolutionary shift in consciousness,” she explains.

         Over the years, Karma has happily used these butterflies to help her patients shift from despair to love. “It brings me great joy to put beauty in the world by helping people to feel connected in their hearts to one another,” she says.

         Karma’s butterflies are often donated to feed the homeless and her work is being nominated for the 2020 Nobel peace prize. They have also been blessed by Paramahamsa Nithyananda.

In addition to her butterfly art, Karma has published several books and sells her art online and in stores.
