Good times with good friends.

Good times with good friends.

This year, publisher Elaine Russo celebrates 10 years of publishing Natural Awakenings magazine in San Diego. I’ve been blessed to be on that journey with her for eight of those years. Not only have we birthed dozens of magazines together, we’ve become good friends. Through the magazine, we’ve been on amazing adventures together—including a week at a retreat center in Costa Rica where we cemented our bonds even stronger. While she has decided to put her magazine up for sale and pass the baton to a new publisher, like me, she will stay in the magazine family.  Many of you don’t know this but I, too once wore the publisher’s hat. In 2004, my husband and I moved to Portland, Oregon, to become the first publishers of Natural Awakenings in the Pacific Northwest. Although we sold the magazine four years later, we stayed in the family as being a part of this amazing publishing world is so rewarding. If you’re seeking a new way in 2019 to make a bigger impact on the world, reach out to Elaine to see if becoming the next publisher is a good fit for you.
In December, my family and I took a long overdue trip to San Diego and North County. Because we’ve been a part of the magazine for so long, we feel very connected to the community. Highlights of our trip included meeting Dr. Jeff Anshel, owner of E Street Eyes and his new Hawaiian shave ice business (see page 8), along with several meals at one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Lotus Café and Juice Bar. We even had the pleasure of hanging with owners Carl and Johanna on one of our visits.

I also stopped by to visit Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat in her beautiful healing garden and sanctuary in Mt. Helix and experienced rolfing first-hand with Michael Mitchell, owner of BodySolutions 101 in Solana Beach (see page 17).

These amazing people, along with all our other advertisers, are the heart of Natural Awakenings. They’re so talented at what they do and are truly healers in every sense of the world. Whether their focus is on healing the body, mind, animals or environment, they are dedicated to making our world a better place. Be sure to check out our advertisers to see if any of their products or services can help make 2019 your best year yet!

May this new year be filled with an abundance of joy, love, great health and prosperity!

Erin

Letter from The Publisher

This letter may be my deepest. Please do not mistake my tone as sadness. It’s something much, much deeper: Truth.

Letter from The Publisher

The beat goes on and yet most of us dance to the beat of another drummer or we choose to not dance at all.
